Phototherapy which uses blue and red light can considerably improve the skin condition, particularly when suffering from acne vulgaris.
A precondition is that the light has the appropriate wavelengths required for a medical effect. Blue light with a wavelength of 400 to 450 nm stimulates oxygen production within the clogged skin pores; it cleans it and thus fights the growth of bacteria.
The blue light has an antibacterial effect. It eliminates the causes of infection within a pore. Thus the propioni bacteria responsible for the development of acne are eliminated.
The red light that has a wavelength of between 580 and 1200 nm stimulates healing and a relaxation of the tissue. It promotes blood flow. Inflammation can fade away faster and the skin is then able to regenerate.
Improvement can be noted within 2 – 3 weeks if the skin is treated 5 times per week for a period of 15 minutes. It is also important to know that exposure to the red and blue light is harmless to skin and eyes.
